Maxa – in the heart of the Okavango Delta
Last Saturday, I had the privilege of visiting Maxa Camp for the first time. Opened in March 2025, Maxa is an intimate safari camp in the heart of the Okavango Delta.
The camp offers a peaceful Delta experience, exceptional wildlife encounters, and a strong connection to the surrounding wilderness.
Safari Experiences at Maxa
Reflections from Onalenna
It was one of those cosy, rainy mornings that practically begs for a steaming cup of black coffee and a warm muffin — so naturally, I obliged. It felt like the perfect Delta weather combination.
With guests out on game drive, we had the rare opportunity to explore the camp freely. Danny first showed us the Family Room, which felt incredibly spacious, thoughtfully designed, and beautifully decorated.
The layout offers privacy, exclusivity, and subtle safari-luxury touches that make a stay feel truly special.
From there, we visited one of the guest tents. Just outside, I spotted a tiny frog resting near the entrance — an adorable reminder of the Delta’s rich and vibrant ecosystem.
I also loved the outdoor shower overlooking the lagoon. It creates a refreshing experience and brings nature right to your doorstep.
One of my favourite spaces at Maxa was the swimming pool area. The pool blends seamlessly into the surrounding Delta landscape, while the wooden deck and natural finishes create a peaceful place to relax.
In addition, Danny showed us the back-of-house area, where the real magic happens. The kitchen team welcomed us with warm smiles and gave us a glimpse into the heart of camp life.
My visit lasted only an hour before flying back to Maun. However, the experience left a lasting impression.
Maxa feels like far more than just a safari camp. Instead, it offers a genuine connection to the soul of the Okavango Delta.
As I boarded the plane, I already found myself daydreaming about my next visit. I cannot wait to return for a longer stay and introduce more guests to the magic of Maxa Camp.
