Mombo Camp and LITTLE MOMBO

Mombo Camp is a luxurious tented camp which overlooks floodplains that teem with wildlife. The sheer number and variety of large mammals in this area make Mombo Camp the ultimate safari retreat. National Geographic, the BBC and many others have filmed here, acclaiming Mombo as having some of the best year-round game-viewing in Africa. The atmosphere, combined with personal attention, food, and guides at Mombo Camp, is excellent.

The camp has 12 identical guest rooms divided into two distinct and independent camps. Mombo has 8 rooms, and Little Mombo has 4 rooms, all connected by wooden walkways. Each luxuriously furnished tented room is raised off the ground offering excellent views over the floodplains. Huge 4-poster beds form the focal point of the large bedroom, while polished mahogany floors lead guests through the hallway to the en suite bathroom and the outside shower. The rooms are beautifully designed, with private balconies giving guests their own view of the floodplains. Beyond the balcony, a walkway winds further out over the floodplain to a private sala, an outdoor bed with amazing views of the surrounding bush and wildlife that wanders by the camp. Little Mombo’s size makes it suitable for a group of guests wanting exclusive use of a Delta camp.

The main areas at Mombo are raised on wooden decks under cool thatch and built around African ebony and sycamore fig trees. The building is positioned to look over the widest part of the Okavango Delta floodplain, which is visited by vast numbers of game, including predators. The dining room boasts a huge eucalyptus-carved table, canvas and teak chairs and a decking area where meals are served under the African skies. The lounge also overlooks the open plain in front of camp, with huge leather sofas and cushions enticing guests to relax and absorb the beauty of their surroundings. Polished mahogany floors lead to the bar and onto the camp’s library. The plunge pool is hidden from the main area – a welcome respite to escape the day’s heat. The walkways connecting the main camp and dining areas to the rooms are raised up to two metres, allowing animals to wander under them. The resident buffalo use the cover of the walkways at night, and elephants easily navigate under them. In addition, there is a private lounge with a sala and a private dining deck for honeymooners.

Little Mombo enjoys the benefits of some shared facilities, but it does have its own central area where guests enjoy absolute luxury whilst maintaining an atmosphere of Africa’s finest classic tented safari camps. Little Mombo’s dining room, bar and living area overlook the open plain in front of the camp, and a plunge pool is perfect for relaxing and watching the various animals walk past the lodge. The boma is a fantastic area located on the edge of the floodplain where guests enjoy delicious meals while admiring the stars and listening to the nocturnal African sounds. Just as at Mombo Camp, the connecting walkways are up to two metres off the ground, allowing game to wander freely through the camp while also allowing for guest safety.
