Deception Valley Lodge
Deception Valley Lodge has an ethnic African theme and was built to fit into the surrounding bush without altering or detracting from the natural ambience and colour. Guests can experience the vastness of the Kalahari and share in the knowledge of the Bushmen who have inhabited Botswana for at least 30,000 years. The cultural walks, guided by the Bushmen, remain the highlight at this luxury safari lodge.
Deception Valley Lodge has 8 stylish, thatched bungalows raised on stilts. Each unit has an en suite Victorian-style bathroom, an outside shower and a spacious lounge with a private deck overlooking the Kalahari bush with its endless open spaces. Each bungalow is connected to the main lodge by wooden walkways. The Kalahari Manor suite comprises 2 master bedrooms, both en suite, with a large, open-plan lounge and a covered veranda extending the entire length of the suite. The Manor is run independently of the main lodge and has its own chef, guide and vehicle, making this an excellent choice for families or friends travelling together.
The central area is decorated in warm Kalahari colours, making use of Bushmen and other local African artefacts. The lounge and dining areas overlook a small waterhole and are excellent places to view the wildlife that comes to drink during the day. A boma for night-time dining affords amazing views across the clear night skies, and consequently, stargazing is spectacular from the lodge.

ACTIVITIES
Deception Valley Lodge offers a unique bush experience in one of Africa’s most remote semi-desert areas with spectacular stargazing and rare insight into San Bushman culture. Activities include afternoon and night drives in custom-built game-viewing vehicles. Night drives reveal a world of nocturnal life, with sightings of genets, civets, African wild cats, caracals and servals. Daytime game drives offer encounters with black-backed jackals, porcupines, and desert specialists such as barking geckos.
Over 200 bird species have been recorded in this region, including ostriches, vultures, raptors, little bee-eaters, lilac-breasted rollers and secretary birds. Guests can also enjoy guided nature walks focusing on the region’s flora and fauna. The highlight for many visitors is the opportunity to interact directly with the San Bushmen on walks where they share ancient bushcraft, survival skills and stories—an immersive cultural experience into Botswana’s oldest traditions.
