savuti camp
In the far reaches of the Linyanti Concession, where the Savuti Channel winds its unpredictable path through Botswana’s northern wilderness, Savuti Camp is quietly tucked along the banks of this dynamic watercourse. Situated approximately 17 kilometres downstream from Zibadianja Lagoon—the source of the channel—Savuti Camp is uniquely positioned to observe the ever-changing rhythm of a water system shaped by shifting tectonics and climate. Whether flowing or dry, the channel brings a rich concentration of wildlife, offering some of the most rewarding game viewing in the region.
When the channel flows, animals gather in large numbers to drink, and predators are never far behind. In drier years, the permanent waterhole in front of camp becomes the only reliable source for miles around, drawing wildlife daily and making the camp itself a prime observation post. The adaptability of the resident wildlife, combined with the seasonal transformation of the landscape, makes every visit to Savuti Camp a distinct and memorable experience.
Savuti Camp accommodates guests in six spacious canvas tents, all facing the Savuti Channel for uninterrupted views. Each tent is built on raised wooden decking and features high ceilings, mesh-fronted walls for breezy airflow, and a private veranda perfect for watching passing wildlife. The interiors blend safari comfort with rustic elegance—wooden floors, canvas walls, and thatched roofing create a warm, natural ambiance. A family unit is also available, comprising two separate en suite rooms connected by a secure corridor, allowing for both privacy and convenience.
The main lodge is an open, inviting structure of thatch and timber, centered around a large viewing deck overlooking the waterhole. Guests can relax in the comfortable lounge area with a small library or enjoy a drink in the bar while watching elephants come down to drink. Dining takes place in the open-sided dining room or outside on the deck, depending on the weather. A shaded swimming pool provides relief during warm afternoons, and the nearby log-pile hide—built beside the water—offers exceptional close-up photography and viewing opportunities, especially during the dry season.
Facilities at Savuti Camp include:
- Six canvas tents with private decks overlooking the Savuti Channel
- One family unit with two en suite bedrooms connected by a secure corridor
- Open-air lounge, library, and viewing decks
- Swimming pool with shaded sun loungers
- Log-pile hide for discreet, close-up wildlife viewing
Why choose Savuti Camp?
- Situated along the wildlife-rich Savuti Channel
- Exceptional dry-season wildlife viewing at the nearby waterhole
- Opportunities to see rare species like aardvark and aardwolf in winter
- Intimate camp atmosphere with just seven units and personalised service
- Ideal for photographers, nature lovers, and those seeking seasonal variety

ACTIVITIES
Savuti Camp offers a range of guided activities designed to take full advantage of the surrounding habitats. Morning and afternoon game drives in open 4×4 vehicles explore the Savuti Channel and adjacent grasslands, where sightings may include lion, leopard, cheetah, spotted hyena, wild dog, giraffe, and rare antelope such as roan and sable. The channel is also a stronghold for elephants, with herds regularly visiting the waterhole in front of camp.
Guided nature walks are available on request and offer a slower, more intimate way to connect with the environment—ideal for learning about tracks, plants, and smaller creatures that are often missed on game drives. Night drives may reveal some of the region’s more elusive nocturnal species, including aardvark and aardwolf during the cooler winter months.
One of Savuti’s signature features is its series of hides. The log-pile hide near the camp is a favorite among guests, offering eye-level photography and safe, unobtrusive viewing of elephants and other wildlife. Whether you’re out in the field or quietly observing from your deck, Savuti Camp provides an ever-changing window into one of Botswana’s most fascinating ecosystems.
