Maxa
Maxa Camp sits quietly along the Maxa Lagoon in the northern reaches of the Okavango Delta, where the Selinda Spillway meets the crystal-clear waters of the Okavango. Surrounded by grassy floodplains, woodland islands and permanent lagoons, Maxa offers a peaceful and authentic Delta experience in a remote and culturally rich setting. The camp’s intimate scale, natural design and connection to local communities make it an ideal destination for travellers seeking a soulful safari immersed in both wilderness and culture.
The camp accommodates a maximum of 12 guests in five spacious canvas tents, including a dedicated family unit. Each tent is thoughtfully appointed with indoor en suite bathrooms and open-air showers, allowing guests to connect with the landscape while enjoying essential comforts. Designed to blend naturally into its surroundings, the camp features separate lounge and dining areas under canvas roofs, partially enclosed with traditional clay walls for warmth and texture.
One of Maxa’s most serene features is a quiet cluster of ebony trees at the edge of the riverine forest, where guests can unwind on a shaded daybed or elevated wooden deck overlooking the lagoon—perfect for birdwatching or a peaceful siesta during the heat of the day.
Facilities at Maxa Camp include:
- 5 canvas tents including a family suite, with indoor and open-air bathrooms
- Lounge and dining areas beneath canvas and clay structures
- Elevated siesta deck and shaded daybed with lagoon views
- Set in a private, controlled section of NG12 Conservancy
- Designed for comfort and connection to nature in an eco-sensitive footprint

ACTIVITIES
Maxa Camp offers a well-rounded and authentic Delta experience that celebrates both the landscape and its people. Situated within the private NG12 conservancy, Maxa provides exclusive access to a region rich in wildlife and cultural heritage.
Year-round land-based activities form the heart of the Maxa safari. Daily game drives—both day and night—explore a mosaic of habitats where guests may encounter elephants, lions, leopards, wild dogs, giraffes and more. Guided walking safaris provide a slower-paced opportunity to examine animal tracks, observe birds and learn about the intricate ecology of the Delta.
During the high-water season, guests can enjoy mokoro excursions along the quiet, reed-lined channels of the Maxa Lagoon and its surrounding waterways. These peaceful, guided journeys offer a chance to see aquatic species like red lechwe, sitatunga, and a dazzling variety of birdlife from a uniquely serene perspective.
Catch-and-release fishing is available on a seasonal basis when water levels are high, offering anglers the chance to try their hand at landing species such as tilapia and African pike.
What sets Maxa apart is its integration with the local community. Cultural activities—such as guided visits to nearby villages—offer guests a respectful and engaging look at the traditions, livelihoods and stories of the people who call this region home. These experiences, paired with classic Delta wildlife encounters, create a safari that is both meaningful and memorable.
