Located on the banks of the dry Boteti River, on the edge of the Makgadikgadi National Park
Leroo La Tau
DISCOVER
Leroo La Tau
Leroo La Tau is built on 15m high cliffs above the Boteti River, which gives guests opportunities for spectacular views and wildlife sightings from this raised vantage point. During the dry season, the Boteti area is populated by up to 30,000 wildebeest and zebra, which have migrated south to the Makgadikgadi in search of grazing and, in turn, bring predator activity. However, Leroo La Tau is not only about lion, zebra and wildebeest – other species found around the lodge are leopard, brown and spotted hyena, impala, kudu, jackal, porcupines, genets and caracal, to name a few.
Accommodation at Leroo La Tau is in 12 luxury glass and thatch suites on individual raised wooden platforms that all provide spectacular views overlooking the riverbed and grassy plains and into Makgadikgadi National Park. The family room, with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, is conveniently located close to the main area. The interiors of the en suite rooms are tastefully decorated and blend in with the natural surroundings.
The main reception and lounge areas sit high on the cliff overlooking the Boteti riverbed and the sweeping scrub and grasslands of the Makgadikgadi. Guests can enjoy a drink at the bar while appreciating the unparalleled view of animals congregating at the water hole below. Alternatively, guests can relax around the pool, watching the herds of zebra and wildebeest coming down to drink at the waterhole. Evenings are spent around the fireplace that overlooks Boteti River bordering the Makgadikgadi National Park in front of the lodge.
Facilities at Leroo La Tau include:
- 12 luxury glass and thatch suites with raised wooden platforms
- En suite bathrooms and private viewing decks
- Family suite with two bedrooms and two bathrooms
- Clifftop main area with bar, lounge and reception
- Swimming pool with view of the waterhole
- Fireplace overlooking the Boteti River
Why choose Leroo La Tau?
- Spectacular vantage point above the Boteti River
- Excellent location for viewing the annual zebra migration (May–October)
- Prime predator and herbivore sightings in contrasting seasonal terrain
- Opportunity for sleep-out under the stars on the salt pans (3+ night stays)
- Unique riverside hide for close-up animal observation

ACTIVITIES
Leroo La Tau offers both day and night game drives, and boat excursions can be provided depending on the water levels of the Boteti River. The contrasting seasons and terrain make this area of the Makgadikgadi a unique haven for large herds and predators alike, ideal for exciting and dramatic game drives.
The annual zebra migration takes place between May and October every year and offers guests a unique experience as thousands of zebras migrate to the Boteti River in search of water. A hide built in front of the lodge allows guests a closer view of the animals drinking at the river. General wildlife along the river is excellent, with regular sightings of elephant, giraffe, kudu, zebra and lion. For guests who want to experience something truly unique, staying 3 nights or more allows them to experience a sleep-out under the stars on the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans.
