Chitabe Camp
Bordering the renowned Moremi Game Reserve, Chitabe Camp sits within a private concession in the southeastern Okavango Delta. This exceptional location combines open floodplains, wooded islands, and a perennial delta landscape, creating one of Botswana’s most diverse wildlife habitats. Though situated within the Delta, Chitabe is a land-based camp and is particularly well known for its frequent sightings of African wild dogs—some of the best in the country.
Chitabe Camp offers just eight spacious “Meru-style” tented rooms, raised on wooden platforms and linked by elevated walkways. Each suite is elegantly designed with a traditional canvas exterior and features an en suite bathroom with both indoor and outdoor showers. A private deck overlooking the floodplain provides an ideal setting for quiet wildlife viewing from the comfort of your own tent. Natural textures, hardwood floors, and thoughtful lighting create a warm and inviting atmosphere that complements the wilderness just outside.
The camp’s beautifully crafted main area sits beneath a thatched roof and is accessed via a wooden walkway. Inside, guests can relax in a stylish lounge with panoramic views of the surrounding plains or gather at the bar, sculpted from the trunk of a massive sausage tree. A few steps below, a circular boma with a firepit invites evening conversation under the stars. The open-sided dining area is the perfect setting for brunches and dinners, while a small library and viewing hide provide peaceful spaces to unwind. On warm afternoons, guests can cool off in the swimming pool, which is surrounded by sun loungers and shaded by towering trees.
Facilities at Chitabe Camp include:
- Eight elevated Meru-style tents with en suite bathrooms
- Indoor and outdoor showers in each tent
- Private decks with views over the floodplain
- Lounge, bar, and open-air dining area under thatch
- Swimming pool with shaded relaxation area
- Library and firepit boma for evening gatherings
- Secluded hide for daytime wildlife viewing or overnight stays

- Prime location in a game-rich private concession bordering Moremi
- Excellent predator viewing, especially African wild dogs
- Expert guiding and long-standing, dedicated staff
- Classic tented camp experience with elevated design and views

ACTIVITIES
Chitabe Camp offers some of the most thrilling game viewing in Botswana, with the surrounding concession home to an extraordinary variety of species. Guests can expect regular sightings of buffalo, elephant, lion, leopard, and the ever-elusive wild dog. The camp lies within the research zone of the Botswana Wild Dog Research Project, and sightings of these rare animals are both frequent and rewarding—often captured by guests and guides who contribute to the camp’s long-standing reputation.
Morning and afternoon game drives in custom 4×4 vehicles offer close encounters with a diverse range of species. As a land-based camp, Chitabe does not offer mokoro or boat excursions, but the dynamic terrain and exceptional guiding more than make up for it. Night drives reveal nocturnal species such as civets, genets, and owls. Seasonal guided bush walks provide an intimate look at the Delta’s smaller flora and fauna, led by experienced walking guides.
Guests seeking a truly immersive experience can spend the night in one of Chitabe’s two elevated hides, including one within walking distance of the camp. With nothing but the sounds of the bush around you and a view of the starlit sky above, it’s an unforgettable way to connect with the wilderness.
