King's Pool Camp
Tucked into the northern reaches of the Linyanti Wildlife Reserve, Kings Pool Camp offers a front-row seat to one of Botswana’s richest ecosystems. Overlooking the Kings Pool Lagoon—an oxbow curve of the Linyanti River—this exclusive camp takes its name from a Scandinavian monarch who once camped along its banks. Today, Kings Pool is a sanctuary for safari travelers seeking elegant comfort, exceptional wildlife viewing, and a deep connection to nature.
This region is best known for its immense elephant population, particularly in the dry season when herds gather in large numbers along the water’s edge. But the surrounding woodlands, floodplains, and swamps are also home to an impressive cast of wildlife: buffalo, waterbuck, sable, giraffe, and zebra, as well as predators like lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog, and spotted hyena. The diversity of both terrain and game makes Kings Pool a standout destination for wildlife lovers and photographers alike.
Kings Pool Camp features seven luxurious tented rooms and one expansive two-bedroom suite, all positioned on raised wooden decks along the riverbank. Each suite offers sweeping views of the lagoon from private balconies, where it’s not uncommon to see elephants drinking just below. The interiors are airy and refined, with high canvas ceilings, tasteful décor, and natural textures that reflect the surrounding environment. All rooms include en suite tiled bathrooms with double showers and outdoor showers for a more immersive experience. The family suite adds a private plunge pool, perfect for warm afternoons with a view.
The main lodge is a striking wood-and-thatch structure that opens fully to the surrounding wilderness. A large viewing deck provides a peaceful spot to watch hippos and elephants in the lagoon, while the dining area—open-sided and breezy—blends seamlessly with the landscape. Evenings are spent under the stars at the open-air boma, where guests dine by firelight surrounded by the sounds of the bush. Throughout the lodge, local artefacts and Botswana basketry lend an authentic sense of place.
Facilities at Kings Pool Camp include:
- Seven luxury tented suites with private decks and outdoor showers
- One two-bedroom suite with private plunge pool
- Elevated main lodge with dining area, bar, and viewing deck
- Open-air boma for starlit dining

ACTIVITIES
Game drives at Kings Pool Camp are led by experienced guides and take guests through the riverine forests, open plains, and seasonal flood zones of the Linyanti. The variety of habitats supports a broad range of wildlife, from large herds of antelope and plains game to apex predators. The region is especially known for its lion prides and frequent sightings of leopard, cheetah, wild dog, and hyena. In the summer, walking safaris are available when elephant concentrations are lower, offering a chance to explore on foot and gain a new perspective on the smaller details of the ecosystem.
Birdlife around the reed-filled swamps and papyrus-fringed waterways is prolific. Guests can expect to see fish eagles, cranes, herons, storks, plovers, and many species of waterfowl, especially during the drier months when these areas become critical sources of water and food.
For unique and unforgettable wildlife encounters, Kings Pool offers two exceptional hides. One is located at the western edge of camp and is perfect for quiet mid-day wildlife viewing. The other, an underground hide, is built at water level and allows guests to observe elephants up close—so close that trunks and tusks are often just inches away, offering an intimate look into the lives of these majestic animals.
