Maxa, in the heart of the Okavango Delta.

Last Saturday, I had the privilege of visiting Maxa Camp for the very first time. Opened in March 2025, Maxa is a charming, intimate camp nestled in the heart of the Okavango Delta, offering a true taste of Delta tranquillity and unforgettable wildlife encounters.

It was one of those cozy, rainy mornings—the kind that practically begs you to pour a steaming cup of black coffee and grab a warm muffin… so of course, I obliged. The perfect weather snack combo. With guests out on game drive, we had the rare opportunity to explore the camp freely. Danny began by showing us the Family Room, which is incredibly spacious, thoughtfully designed, and beautifully decorated. The layout offers privacy, exclusivity, and those subtle safari-luxury touches that make a stay truly special.

From there, we visited one of the guest tents, where I spotted a tiny frog sitting just outside—an adorable reminder of the Delta’s rich, vibrant ecosystem. I also loved the outdoor shower overlooking the lagoon, a unique and refreshing feature that brings nature right to your doorstep.

One of my favourite areas was the swimming pool, seamlessly blending into the lush Delta landscape. The wooden deck and natural finishes create an inviting space to unwind and take in the sounds and views of the Okavango. Danny then showed us the back-of-house area—where the real magic happens. The kitchen team greeted us with warm smiles, offering a glimpse into the heart of camp life.

My visit was short—just an hour to explore before flying back to Maun—but it certainly left its mark. Maxa isn’t just a safari camp; it feels like a little window into the soul of the Delta. As I boarded the plane, I found myself already daydreaming about my next visit. Maxa Camp is one of those places where memories linger, and I can’t wait to return for a longer stay and to bring more guests to experience its magic.
