Chobe river lodge
The town of Kasane sits at the meeting point of four countries—Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe—and is a vibrant hub for safari travellers heading into the Chobe region. Located directly on the banks of the Chobe River, Chobe River Lodge offers a peaceful retreat just minutes from the entrance to Chobe National Park, one of Africa’s premier wildlife destinations.
Nestled within a lush riverside garden, the lodge is a haven for nature lovers and bird enthusiasts. Flowering hibiscus, frangipani, bougainvillea, and fruit-bearing tropical plants like banana and pawpaw attract a variety of birdlife to the property. The setting is tranquil and inviting, offering guests the perfect base from which to explore the surrounding wilderness or simply unwind with a view of the water.
The lodge features 12 individually decorated guest rooms, including six river-facing suites, five courtyard rooms, and one family unit. All rooms are en suite and open onto private verandas with views of the Chobe River. Interiors are furnished with local teak and wicker, with textiles and decor sourced from across Southern Africa. The style is warm and authentic, reflecting a strong sense of place and a connection to the region.
Chobe River Lodge’s communal spaces are equally inviting. The main lounge and dining room are set under a thatched roof and open out toward the garden and river. Guests are welcome to dine inside, at the shared teak table, or outdoors beside the swimming pool. A fire-lit boma is available for relaxed evenings under the stars, and the upstairs lounge provides a quiet corner to read or reflect while overlooking the garden. The on-site bar—known as the map room—is a favorite gathering spot, decorated with an eclectic collection of maps and travel memorabilia.
Whether you’re returning from a morning game drive or watching the sunset over the river, Chobe River Lodge offers a relaxed, home-style atmosphere in a location rich in both wildlife and culture.
Facilities at Chobe River Lodge include:
- Riverside swimming pool and sun loungers
- Upstairs lounge with views over the garden
- Communal dining area and open-air boma
- Bar and map room with travel-themed décor
- Private verandas with river views from every room

ACTIVITIES
Chobe River Lodge offers flexible, personalized safari experiences that can be tailored to guests’ interests and pace. Game drives into Chobe National Park are conducted in open 4×4 vehicles and timed to avoid the busiest periods, allowing for a more relaxed and immersive wildlife experience. These excursions offer opportunities to see elephants, buffalo, lions, and a wide variety of plains game and birds.
Boat cruises along the Chobe River are another highlight, offering a chance to view wildlife from the water. Elephants often come down to drink, while hippos, crocodiles, and waterbirds are a constant presence along the riverbanks. Sunset cruises provide especially beautiful lighting for photography and quiet reflection.
Fishing excursions are available, with all tackle provided, and can be arranged directly through the lodge. Guests interested in cultural experiences can also take a guided dug-out canoe trip across the river into Namibia, where they’ll visit local villages and explore the area on foot—an enriching way to connect with the people and cultures of the region.
