Tubu Tree Camp

Tubu Tree Camp is perched on the western edge of Hunda Island within the Jao Reserve, offering sweeping views of the Okavango Delta’s diverse landscape. Built on raised wooden platforms beneath a canopy of riverine trees, the camp combines the charm of a traditional safari experience with access to both dry-land and water-based activities. The area transitions from Kalahari sandveld to riverine forest and permanent floodplains, creating ideal conditions for excellent game viewing year-round.

The camp accommodates guests in 8 East African-style Meru tents, all elevated to enhance the views across the surrounding floodplains. Each tent is spacious and elegant, with roll-down canvas panels on large front windows, wooden doorways, and private verandas. En suite bathrooms include both indoor and outdoor showers, offering the opportunity to bathe under the African sky while enjoying sweeping Delta vistas.

The main lodge at Tubu Tree Camp is an open-sided thatched structure raised on stilts, featuring a comfortable lounge with leather sofas, a small library, and a well-stocked bar. A generous viewing deck overlooks the floodplains and leads to a boma area where a fire is lit each morning and evening, creating the perfect space for storytelling under the stars. A short walkway leads to the swimming pool area, with shaded loungers and panoramic views.

ACTIVITIES

Tubu Tree Camp offers an immersive Okavango Delta experience with a mix of water and land-based adventures. From May to late September, when water levels rise, the floodplains surrounding the camp transform into a watery maze ideal for mokoro excursions and boating safaris. Guests can glide silently along reed-fringed channels in a traditional dugout canoe or explore deeper waters by motorboat. Fishing is also available during this period on a catch-and-release basis.

Year-round, guests enjoy expertly guided game drives—both by day and after dark—offering opportunities to see elephant, lion, leopard, giraffe, zebra, red lechwe, and wildebeest across the plains. In the woodlands, kudu, impala and bushbuck are often encountered. The camp also offers guided walking safaris, allowing guests to learn about animal tracks, local vegetation and the intricacies of the Delta ecosystem on foot.

Tubu Tree is an exceptional destination for birding enthusiasts, with the mix of habitats attracting a wide range of species. From the open floodplains to the forested islands and papyrus-lined channels, guests can expect to see everything from wattled cranes and African jacanas to kingfishers, herons and raptors.
