Stanleys Camp
Stanley’s Camp is tucked beneath a grove of ebony and sausage trees on the southern tip of Chief’s Island in the Okavango Delta. This intimate tented camp blends classic safari elegance with rich wildlife encounters in one of the Delta’s most sought-after regions. The area is teeming with game year-round, including elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, cheetah, hippo, giraffe, and the elusive African wild dog.
The camp accommodates just 20 guests in 10 spacious safari tents, all raised on wooden decking and styled with handcrafted furnishings, antique pieces, oriental carpets and fine linen. Each tent offers an en suite bathroom and a private viewing deck with hammocks and Morris chairs, perfectly positioned for peaceful siestas with a view over the surrounding floodplains.
Stanley’s Camp’s main lodge is built around a towering sausage tree and is cleverly nestled into the natural tree line, offering an organic feel and unobstructed Delta views. The central area is split between two elevated structures—one housing the lounge and bar, the other the dining space and plunge pool. In the evenings, guests gather by the firepit under the stars before enjoying dinner served in the thatched dining area or beneath the open sky.
Facilities at Stanley’s Camp include:
- 10 classic safari tents with en suite bathrooms
- Private viewing decks with hammocks and outdoor seating
- Elevated main lodge with separate bar, lounge and dining areas
- Plunge pool with views over the floodplain
- Outdoor firepit area for evening gatherings
Why choose Stanley’s Camp?
- Located in a rich wildlife zone on the edge of Chief’s Island
- Excellent predator sightings, including leopard and wild dog
- Classic tented safari charm with a relaxed, luxurious atmosphere
- Night drives and walking safaris for deeper wilderness immersion
- Seasonal mokoro excursions for a true Delta experience

ACTIVITIES
Stanley’s Camp offers a wide range of safari experiences that take full advantage of its location within the Okavango Delta. Morning and afternoon game drives in open 4×4 vehicles explore the diverse terrain, providing excellent opportunities to see large herds of elephant and buffalo, alongside lions, leopards, giraffes and even cheetahs. The camp is also one of the few that offers night drives, allowing guests to seek out the Delta’s nocturnal species such as civets, genets, hyenas and leopards after sunset.
Walking safaris with a professional armed guide offer a closer perspective on the Delta’s ecology, as guests learn to read tracks, identify birds and understand the finer details of this wilderness. When water levels permit, usually during the seasonal flood, tranquil mokoro excursions glide guests through narrow channels lined with reeds and lilies, providing a peaceful way to encounter aquatic life and bird species at eye level.
The varied habitats surrounding Stanley’s Camp also make it an excellent destination for birdwatching throughout the year. From saddle-billed storks and African jacanas to wattled cranes and kingfishers, the skies and waterways are alive with activity.
