Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge
Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge is nestled within a cathedral of wild ebony and fig trees on the edge of the permanent Santantadibe River in the Okavango Delta. Designed with a deep respect for its environment, the lodge’s architecture draws inspiration from the pangolin’s scales and weaves seamlessly into its natural setting. No trees were removed during construction; instead, the rooms and walkways are built into natural clearings, blending the organic forms of the forest with earthy, modern elegance. This is a safari lodge that truly treads lightly on the land, while offering superb wildlife viewing and deep comfort in equal measure.
The lodge comprises 12 spacious, light-filled cottages built of stone and terracotta, each positioned under a lush canopy of trees and facing the river. The cottages are set on elevated platforms and include private verandas with polished concrete decks, table and chairs, and an additional raised viewing platform to take in the wildlife and Delta views. Large gauze-screened windows invite in natural light and breezes, while en suite bathrooms include both indoor and open-air showers for an immersive bush experience. Decorated in neutral tones and natural textures, each cottage strikes a balance between grounded luxury and raw wilderness.
Sandibe’s central lodge is a dramatic two-storey structure with sweeping, sculptural design elements and a sense of fluid space. The ground floor houses a cosy lounge area and a dining space surrounded by open walls and shaded by the forest. African baskets, artworks and woven detailing accent the interiors, many of which were crafted by the lodge’s own staff. Upstairs, guests can relax on comfortable sofas and observe the colony of epauletted fruit bats roosting in the rafters. A small splash pool sits on a raised deck near the main lodge, flanked by sun loungers in sunny and shaded positions—perfect for a mid-afternoon reprieve.

ACTIVITIES
Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge offers a well-rounded safari experience with a focus on both land and water-based exploration. Daily game drives in open 4×4 vehicles provide opportunities to track big cats, elephants, giraffe, and antelope species throughout the varied terrain. The camp also offers exciting night drives, when the Delta’s nocturnal creatures—like civets, genets, porcupines and occasionally aardvarks—make their appearance under a blanket of stars.
Mokoro excursions allow for a quieter journey through the reed-fringed waterways, while guests can also explore the permanent channels aboard a custom-designed silent electric boat—an innovative and serene way to view the Delta’s birdlife and aquatic fauna. Interpretive bush walks led by experienced San (Bushman) guides offer rare insight into traditional survival skills, including rope-making from local grasses, fire-lighting using friction sticks, animal tracking, and trap-setting techniques passed down through generations.
From thrilling wildlife encounters to peaceful moments drifting through papyrus-lined channels, Sandibe invites guests to experience the Okavango Delta in all its richness and nuance.
