Nxabega Okavango Tented Camp
Nxabega Okavango Tented Camp lies on the edge of a permanent floodplain in a private concession in the Okavango Delta. Meaning “place of the giraffe,” Nxabega offers a luxurious tented safari experience with spectacular views over the Delta’s intricate channels and lush grasslands. The camp blends the romance of canvas with elegant interiors and delivers an immersive water-and-land-based safari in one of Africa’s most diverse ecosystems.
The camp accommodates up to 18 guests in 9 en suite safari tents raised on wooden platforms and linked by sandy pathways through the bush. Each tent is beautifully styled with large beds, burnished teak floors, and elegant furnishings. Instead of the usual zip, each tent features a solid wooden door, leading out to a shaded veranda where guests can sit and enjoy uninterrupted views of the floodplain. The spacious bathrooms are fitted with large showers and polished teak finishes, providing both comfort and style in the heart of the wilderness.
Nxabega’s thatched main lodge features a spacious dining area, an inviting lounge with books and board games, a crackling fireplace for chilly evenings, and a well-stocked bar. Outside, multiple wooden decks offer a variety of seating areas overlooking the water. Meals are enjoyed al fresco by the pool, on the main deck, or around a communal candlelit table. A raised walkway leads to the swimming pool area where cushioned loungers and shaded umbrellas provide the perfect place to relax between activities. For added indulgence, the on-site spa offers a range of in-room massage treatments, including aromatherapy and traditional Swedish techniques.

ACTIVITIES
Nxabega Okavango Tented Camp offers a rich variety of activities that showcase the Delta’s dual nature—both land and water. Morning and afternoon game drives take guests into the surrounding mopane woodlands, open plains and palm-dotted islands in search of wildlife such as giraffe, impala, zebra, baboons and jackals. During the dry season, elephant herds are often seen passing through the concession, while large concentrations of lechwe and buffalo gather near the floodplains. Roan and sable antelope roam the surrounding woodlands, adding to the diversity of sightings.
Water activities offer an entirely different perspective. Mokoro excursions glide silently along reed-fringed channels, where frogs cling to papyrus stems and dazzling birds flit among the reeds. Motorboat safaris allow for broader exploration, offering close encounters with the Delta’s aquatic life and bird species, including the elusive Pel’s fishing owl. The riverine forests near camp are home to fruit bats, and the abundance of fig trees ensures rich birdwatching throughout the year.
For those seeking deeper immersion, guided bush walks reveal the finer details of the ecosystem—animal tracks, medicinal plants and the interplay between flora and fauna. Whether drifting through Delta waters or tracking wildlife on foot, Nxabega’s expert guides ensure every outing is filled with discovery and wonder.
