Muchenje Safari Lodge
The Chobe River winds along Botswana’s northern border, carving a rich and varied landscape of floodplains, forests, and open savannahs that support some of the most diverse wildlife populations in Africa. Set on a private escarpment on the quieter western edge of Chobe National Park, Muchenje Safari Lodge offers a front-row seat to this extraordinary ecosystem, with sweeping views over the river and Caprivi floodplains below.
Muchenje’s elevated position allows for game viewing without ever leaving the lodge. Elephants, buffalo, and plains game are often visible from the lodge’s various vantage points, including the main deck, pool terrace, and even the private verandas of the guest suites. With just 11 rooms, the lodge offers an intimate, exclusive experience far from the busier eastern reaches of the park.
Accommodation at Muchenje consists of 11 thatched safari bungalows, recently refurbished and thoughtfully designed to reflect the natural surroundings. Each suite features a shaded private veranda, a writing desk, ceiling fan, electric safe, and ample storage space. En suite bathrooms include large showers, his-and-hers basins, and locally inspired accents. One of the units is a spacious family suite, with a downstairs double bedroom and bathroom and a loft area upstairs with two single beds—ideal for families or small groups.
At the heart of the property is the main lodge building, which combines charm and function with expansive lounge and dining areas, open viewing decks, and a full-service bar. Guests can unwind in quiet nooks overlooking the river or gather around the fireplace in the evening. A swimming pool and sun deck provide a refreshing space to relax during the heat of the day. The curio shop offers a thoughtful collection of regional crafts and souvenirs for guests wishing to take a piece of Botswana home.
Whether relaxing with a drink on the deck, watching elephants roam in the distance, or sharing stories over dinner under the stars, Muchenje Safari Lodge delivers a warm and personal safari experience in one of Botswana’s most wildlife-rich corners.
Facilities at Muchenje Safari Lodge include:
- Elevated lounge and dining areas with panoramic views
- Swimming pool with river-facing sun deck
- Private shaded verandas on all suites
- Family suite with loft accommodation
- Curio shop with handmade local crafts
Why choose Muchenje Safari Lodge?
- Secluded setting on Chobe’s peaceful western boundary
- Spectacular river views from every room and common space
- Intimate lodge experience with only 11 guest suites
- Access to both Chobe National Park and a private concession
- Ideal for families, couples, and photographers seeking quieter safaris

ACTIVITIES
Muchenje Safari Lodge offers a wide variety of activities, carefully designed to provide guests with a deep and well-rounded understanding of the Chobe ecosystem. With a maximum of 22 guests in camp, activities feel personal and unhurried, and are led by experienced, professional guides.
Game drives into Chobe National Park showcase the region’s extraordinary wildlife, including large herds of elephant and buffalo, lions, leopards, spotted hyena, and wild dogs. The area is also home to an impressive range of plains game and over 450 species of birds.
Boat excursions along the Chobe River allow for close-up viewing of animals as they come to drink and cool off. These river safaris are especially rewarding for photographers and bird enthusiasts.
Muchenje also operates its own private concession, where guests can enjoy guided bush walks—an opportunity to observe the smaller details of the bush and learn about the ecosystem at ground level. Night drives offer the chance to spot nocturnal animals, from civets and genets to owls and porcupines.
Cultural visits to a nearby village provide insight into local life and traditions, offering a meaningful human connection to this remote corner of Botswana.
