Baines' Camp
Tucked within a private concession in the southeastern reaches of the Okavango Delta, Baines’ Camp offers a secluded and intimate safari experience where luxury, romance, and wilderness meet. Named in honour of Thomas Baines—the 19th-century explorer and artist who captured the magic of Africa in his paintings—the camp reflects both a sense of history and an appreciation for the natural world. The surrounding area is rich in biodiversity, home to elephant, buffalo, hippo, lion, leopard, giraffe, wild dog, and cheetah, as well as an extraordinary array of birdlife.
Baines’ Camp is one of the Delta’s most unique and romantic safari hideaways. With just six elevated suites, the camp offers maximum privacy and a quiet, nature-immersive atmosphere. Each suite is designed with softly draped fabrics, earthy tones, and vintage touches, echoing the style of early explorers. A defining feature of the suites is their luxurious, mobile four-poster beds, which can be wheeled onto the private deck for a night under the stars—a magical experience enhanced by the camp’s remote, light-pollution-free location. En suite bathrooms offer generous space, indoor showers, and a serene connection to the surrounding landscape.
The central area of the camp overlooks the permanent waters of the Boro River, with an oversized deck for open-air dining and uninterrupted views of the floodplains. A small infinity pool provides welcome relief from the midday heat, with nearby sun loungers and shaded salas offering quiet corners to unwind and watch the day unfold. Whether dining alfresco or enjoying a sundowner by the water, guests at Baines’ Camp are surrounded by the stillness and richness of the Delta’s unique rhythms.

- Six elevated suites with private decks and mobile four-poster beds
- En suite bathrooms and stargazing opportunities from each room

ACTIVITIES
Baines’ Camp offers a diverse safari programme that allows guests to explore the Okavango Delta from every angle. Morning and evening game drives are the cornerstone of each day, with experienced guides tracking predators and large game through the varied terrain of woodland, savannah, and wetland. Night drives offer a rare opportunity to observe nocturnal creatures such as porcupines, bush babies, genets, and owls.
During the flood season, guests can explore the watery wilderness by mokoro—a traditional dugout canoe polled by an expert guide—or aboard shaded motorboats that skim across the waterways. These excursions reveal a quieter, more intimate side of the Delta and offer outstanding birding, with sightings of herons, jacanas, kingfishers, and the elusive Pel’s fishing owl.
Walking safaris are a speciality at Baines’ Camp. Led by armed professional guides, these bush walks offer a closer look at the complex ecology of the region. From tracking animal spoor to identifying medicinal plants and learning about termite mounds, the walks reveal the intricate details of the Delta’s ecosystem that are often missed from a vehicle.
Whether gliding across a mirror-like channel, walking through golden grasslands, or sleeping beneath a canopy of stars, Baines’ Camp offers a deeply personal and richly textured experience of the Okavango.
