Vumbura Plains Camp
Vumbura Plains is a premier safari destination situated in a vast 60,000-hectare private concession in the northern Okavango Delta. Surrounded by a mosaic of floodplains, woodlands, and permanent channels, the camp offers a rare combination of both land and water-based safari experiences, with exceptional game viewing and scenic beauty. Divided into two intimate satellite camps—North Camp and South Camp—Vumbura Plains is designed to provide a luxurious yet immersive stay in one of Botswana’s richest wildlife areas.
The camp accommodates guests in 14 elevated luxury suites, with Vumbura Plains North featuring 8 rooms (including 2 family suites), and Vumbura Plains South offering 6 rooms in a slightly more private, quieter setting. Each spacious suite is constructed of wood, glass, and thatch and includes a large bedroom, lounge, en suite bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers, and a shaded outdoor sala. Sliding doors open onto expansive private decks furnished with daybeds, a plunge pool, and shaded seating that overlook the surrounding floodplains.
Raised wooden walkways connect the rooms to the main lodge areas, which are thoughtfully designed beneath the canopy of indigenous trees. Stylish interiors incorporate carved wooden features, bold African artwork, and sunken lounge spaces with panoramic Delta views. The open-sided dining area offers alfresco meals with views across the plains, and a telescope is available for stargazing and birdwatching from the deck.

- 14 luxurious suites split between two satellite camps
- Private plunge pools and shaded salas in every room
- En suite bathrooms with indoor and outdoor showers

ACTIVITIES
Vumbura Plains offers one of the most varied safari experiences in the Okavango Delta, with access to both permanent waterways and expansive dry plains. Game drives in open 4×4 vehicles are conducted in the early morning and late afternoon, offering a chance to encounter predators such as lion, leopard, cheetah, spotted hyena and wild dog. Plains game sightings are exceptional, with large herds of elephant, buffalo, red lechwe, wildebeest, kudu, tsessebe, and the elusive sable antelope regularly spotted.
Water activities are equally impressive. Mokoro excursions allow guests to drift silently along papyrus-lined channels in a traditional dugout canoe, while motorboat trips explore the deeper waterways and lagoons. Fishing, offered on a catch-and-release basis, adds another layer of adventure for guests staying during flood season.
Guided nature walks provide a chance to appreciate the smaller details of the Delta, such as tracks, insects, and plants, and offer a completely different perspective on the ecosystem. Vumbura Plains also excels in birdwatching. With its blend of wetland and dry habitats, the area supports an astonishing array of species, including the endangered wattled crane, slaty egret, Pel’s fishing owl, and white-backed night heron.
