Leroo La Tau

Leroo La Tau is built on 15-metre-high cliffs above the Boteti River, offering spectacular views and excellent wildlife sightings from this elevated position. During the dry season, up to 30,000 zebra and wildebeest migrate into the Makgadikgadi in search of grazing. As a result, predator activity increases, creating dramatic wildlife encounters.

However, Leroo La Tau offers more than large herds and predators. Guests may also encounter leopard, brown and spotted hyena, impala, kudu, jackal, porcupine, genet, and caracal throughout the area.

Accommodation at Leroo La Tau Botswana consists of 12 luxury glass and thatch suites, each set on a raised wooden platform. Each suite offers expansive views over the riverbed, grassy plains, and into Makgadikgadi National Park. In addition, a family suite with two bedrooms and two bathrooms sits conveniently close to the main area. The interiors are tastefully designed to blend with the natural surroundings while maintaining comfort.

Meanwhile, the main lodge area sits high on the cliff, overlooking the Boteti riverbed and surrounding grasslands. Guests can enjoy a drink at the bar while watching wildlife gather at the waterhole below. Alternatively, the swimming pool offers a relaxing space to observe zebra and wildebeest as they come down to drink. In the evenings, guests gather around the fireplace, which overlooks the Boteti River and the edge of Makgadikgadi National Park.

Leroo La Tau offers both day and night game drives, allowing guests to explore the Makgadikgadi landscape across different times of day. In addition, boat excursions may be available depending on the water levels of the Boteti River.

The contrast between seasons and terrain creates a unique environment that supports large herds and active predator sightings. As a result, game drives here are often both exciting and visually dramatic.

The annual zebra migration takes place between May and October, when thousands of zebra move towards the Boteti River in search of water. During this time, guests can witness one of Botswana’s most impressive wildlife spectacles.

Meanwhile, a hide positioned in front of the lodge offers close-up views of animals drinking at the river. Regular sightings include elephant, giraffe, kudu, zebra, and lion, making the area consistently rewarding for wildlife viewing.

For those seeking a truly unique experience, guests staying three nights or more can enjoy a sleep-out under the stars on the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans. This adds a memorable and immersive element to any safari.
