Kanana

Southwestern Okavango Delta

Kanana (Setswana for paradise) is centrally located on a private concession in the Okavango Delta. This area is home to a diversity of species, including many migratory bird species.

The 8 spacious, twin-bedded safari meru tents, including 1 family tent, accommodating up to 16 guests, are set on raised teak decks and offer breathtaking views across the waterways. All tents have en suite bathrooms and are well-spaced to afford privacy but are still within a comfortable distance from the central areas.

Remote and beautiful, Kanana offers a great variety of land and water activities in the spectacular Okavango Delta. Depending on the annual floods, guests may be lucky enough to enjoy the visible spectacle of the water rising around the camp in the early months of the year. The shared facilities of Kanana are on stilts overlooking the Delta floodplains. The dining and lounge areas are on raised decking built around a massive, ancient fig tree and the camp has a well-stocked bar for those evening sundowners and a swimming pool.

Activities

A wide variety of activities are available at Kanana, including game drives in open game-viewing vehicles, mokoro excursions, motorboating, sunset cruises and game walks. Game drives occur in the morning and late afternoon continuing into the evening for night drives. Guests can explore the pristine waterways by mokoro or motorboat and enjoy the magnificent variety of bird, plant and reptile species found in the area. Kanana hosts a seasonal heronry that teems with activity from July through to the summer months, a true highlight for birders and non-birders alike. Guided walks are highly recommended and fly or spin fishing for tilapia, African pike and sharptooth catfish can be arranged for guests.

Why we like Kanana

Kanana is a land and water camp with private access to one of the largest heronries in the Okavango Delta. The concession is an excellent area for birding, with regular sightings of the Pel's Fishing Owl and with only 4 people in a vehicle, guests are offered a truly personal experience.
