savuti camp

Southern part of the Linyanti Wildlife Reserve, in northern Botswana.

Savuti Camp, situated about 17 km 'downstream' from the Zibadianja Lagoon, the source of the channel, was designed to emphasise the spectacular Savuti Channel upon whose banks it was built. The ebb and flow of the Savuti Channel are dependent upon unpredictable environmental and geological phenomena making the resident wildlife exceptionally adaptable to changes. When flowing, the channel attracts large numbers of game to come and drink, and once it recedes, the rich grasslands left behind attract herbivores and predators alike. When the channel is dry, the waterhole in front of camp is the only water source over a large area and therefore offers excellent wildlife viewing.

All 6 tents face the Savuti Channel, providing privacy and stunning views from each deck. These large en suite tents are lovely, with canvas walls, wooden floors, high ceilings and beautiful thatched roofs. The front walls and entrances of the tents are meshed, which allows for splendid viewing from within the room. The family tent has separate bathrooms and an enclosed corridor joining the two rooms, which can be used safely at night.

The main lodge at Savuti Camp is a large wooden and thatch structure with a great viewing deck overlooking the waterhole. Wildlife can often be seen coming down to drink, and guests can get more up close and personal from the log-pile hide, which can be accessed when water levels aren't too high. There is a large lounge area with comfortable chairs, sofas, and a small library. Beyond the lounge is another deck overlooking the waterhole, with a small, shaded swimming pool and sun loungers. The open-sided bar and dining area offer additional spaces to enjoy the views.

Activities

Guests will explore the Savuti Channel and surrounds on day and night game drives, nature walks with a guide on request, and several well-positioned hides for safe, up-close animal viewing. Savuti Camp's 'wood-pile hide' at the waterhole or flowing Savuti is famous for spectacular elephant viewing in the drier winter months. Game concentrations in Savuti are high, particularly in the winter dry season. Apart from abundant plains game, species such as roan and sable antelope, southern giraffe, lion, leopard, cheetah, spotted hyena, black-backed jackal and wild dog may also be encountered. This area can also be excellent for sighting the more elusive and hard-to-find aardvark and aardwolf in winter.

Why we like Savuti Camp

Savuti Camp provides private and exclusive access to the abundant game and excellent birding in the area with spectacular seasonal elephant viewing at the wood-pile hide. In addition, the stylish Savuti star-bed with views of the Savuti Channel and Zibadianja Lagoon offers a romantic experience under the stars.
